THRIVAL Innovation and Music Festival

The Inaugural THRIVAL Innovation and Music Festival will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at Bakery Square in Pittsburgh. The event is presented by PNC Bank and powered by Thrill Mill, Inc. and the Pittsburgh Global Shapers Hub.

“We are excited to present a festival that merges the arts and business innovation scenes, two sectors on the rise in Pittsburgh,” said Thrill Mill CEO Bobby Zappala. The idea for the festival began several years prior, when Zappala and friends, including College Prowler CEO and Thrill Mill Board Chairman Luke Skurman, hosted networking barbeques in their own back yards because there were not enough events catered to Pittsburgh’s growing young professional class.

THRIVAL Festival will be separated into two parts: The innovation showcase will be 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Bakery Square I.  The showcase will feature “PIT Talks” with prominent speakers and educational workshops, as well as an “Innovation Row” highlighting Pittsburgh’s most innovative and creative organizations.  Further, the companies currently in Thrill Mill’s Hustle Den incubator space will pitch their businesses in Google’s Pittsburgh headquarters before a gathering of regional and national investors.  The innovation showcase is a free event.

The music festival will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at Bakery Square II.  Gates will open at 4:30 p.m.  The festival will feature performances by national acts De La Soul, RJD2 and Frightened Rabbit, and local acts Formula 412 and others. General admission tickets to the music festival cost $20 and VIP tickets cost $100.  VIP tickets include free parking in the Bakery Square garage.

THRIVAL Innovation and Music Festival welcomes all ages to attend.

In recent years, Pittsburgh’s perception as a working class and industrial city has been challenged as it continues to be a launching pad for companies and individuals making their marks on an international level.  Most notably, Pittsburgh hosted the G-20 Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy in 2009, and the One Young World Symposium in 2012.

The THRIVAL Innovation and Music Festival will cement Pittsburgh’s new identity as a city where innovation, entrepreneurship, and the arts converge with amazing results.
